Leap of Faith

Sam stood on a platform high above the bank of a large river. He’d reached the end of the ropes course at summer camp. Mack, his counselor, was buckling him to the zip line that ran to the other riverbank. “All set,” Mack said. “Can you handle this, big guy?”

“No sweat,” Sam replied.

Mack slapped his shoulder, saying, “Have fun!”

Sam hesitated. It was a long way across—and a long way down. And this was no peaceful river. The white water rushed over jagged rocks.

“It’ll carry you across,” Mack said. “The ride’s a rush, but you have to jump.”

Sam grabbed the rope attached to his harness. Here goes! he thought and leaped. The zip line whirred as he shot across the water, and he whooped as he reached the far side of the river.
